Advice on using SpaceShip Voyager:

- Dont forget to declare your TFN after you create your account.

- Spaceship is a managed fund. Managed funds is also known as Mutual Funds.

- Spaceship has several portfolio to choose from:  Universe, Origin, Earth.

I choose "Universe" since its theme is "where the world is going" which is mostly technology stock related.

like : Spotify, Microsoft, Square, Apple, and Tesla.

- Treat Spaceship investment like your SUPER. The fund is managed for you and you don't need to look at your investment everyday. Checking on a monthly or quarterly / semi should be fine like how you check the performance of your SUPER.

- You may set investment type/frequency if you want to do manual or on a regular top up.

I started with a weekly top up of $5, once you gain confidence and familiarity with the platform is when I started increasing my top up and I changed it depending on my available cash. You can stop, do manual and auto top up.

- Deposit takes few days to hit your account (1 to 3 days). Withdrawal also take almost the same numbe rof days.

- Manage (increase/decrease/pause) your top up amount depending on your capacity and outlook of the market. You can also buy and sell WITHOUT Trading fees as much as you like (active investing since you have control when to buy/sell and the amount you want to invest). 

- This is not intended for active trading

- Spaceship is for long term investment just like your SUPER.

- Spaceship may or may not provide "distribution" (distribution is like dividend). So far it provides distribution for the past 2 fiscal year every end of July. 

- Review their portfolio if it still aligns with your investing strategy from time to time. They have several portfolio to choose from.

- You can also use the list of stocks they own in their portfolio as a guide if you plan to buy your own individual stock.

- File tax end of July when Spaceship provides the statements for distributions(dividend) and record to ATO so it will be auto prefill MyTax (trades still need to declare separately if you made a trade that resulted a loss or gain)  
- If the market drops significantly, its time to add more or do a manual top up (my plan)

- It is an investment, all investment has RISK.

- Spaceship has change their FEE structure starting NOV 1, 2021

$2.50 monthly fee when portfolio is over $100.

I am not in favour of this as they use to advocate micro investment so others can stat small.

If you only have less than $1000, $2.50 monthly charge will eat up your entire portfolio.

The more money you invest, the fees becomes less as you can see from the scenario below:

Example scenario:

1.  Investment of  $300

The portfolio needs  to earn 10% annually on your $300 to cover the $30 annual fee.

You are break even  at 10% on your $300 investment. That is not our goal.

It is not all the time Spaceship can earn over 10% every single year although in the past they earn over 10-2% in a year.

2. Investment of $1000

The portfolio needs to earn 3% annually on your $1000 investment to cover the $30 annual fee and when it gains over 3% is your profit.

3. Investment of $2000

The portfolio needs to earn 1.5% annually on your $2000 investment to cover the $30 annual fee and when it gains over 1.5% is your profit.

3. Investment of $3000

The portfolio needs to earn 1.0% annually on your $3000 investment to cover the $30 annual fee and when it gains over 1.0% is your profit.

4. Investment of $6000

The portfolio needs to earn 0.01% annually on your $6000 investment to cover the $30 annual fee and when it gains over 0.5% is your profit.

I suggest those who have small amount in their portfolio to pull out their investment not to loose in fees.

You can time when to take out your money when you are break even or while you you still have gains, maybe it is the right time to pull out if you do not have plans to add over $1500-$200. The more the better so that it can sustain the fees by itself.

Raiz does the same, they also charge monthly. Performance of Spaceship was better than Raiz in the past. BUt past performance is not a basis of future performance.

And comparing performance of Raiz and Spaceship,

- Withdrawal fee cost $5 if you want it back to your linked bank account.

- What is I want to close my account? With Spaceship Voyager, there is no withdrawal fee, sell spread or exit fee.

How I personally use Spaceship?

I research on Spaceship Voyager from forums, their website, FAQ, read feedbacks and also look at their portfolio performance and what stocks are included in their portfolio. I do due diligence before I start investing in Spaceship.

1. I open Universe portfolio since I like the themed (global exposure) and also I prefer higher risk than the Origin portfolio which only tracks the ASX index. 

 

2. I suggest starting at $2000 - $3000 investment so that the portfolio needs to gain at least 1.5% per year to recover the fees and if it goes over, will be my profit

3. I make sure I provide my TFN check my details 

4. Set weekly top up. I started with $5 and I increase my weekly top up once I gain confidence, familiarity with the platform and see its potential to grow.

5. Monitor the performance at least on a monthly basis as a chance to modify my weekly top up if needed.

since the app is installed on my phone and easy to access, I was able to checked it more frequently. 

I review/ look at my investment on a regular period like SUPER and others.

6. Use the referral code if someone is interested in joining as it also help the new investor in Spaceship to get their FREE $5 joining bonus.

7. Review their individual stock in their Universe portfolio to give me idea about the company that is not in my radar as I also buy individual socks. I place it in my other platform (broker) watch list.

8. Created an account for my wife since she is not into stocks, no time to study about stocks. A perfect candidate to use Spaceship Voyager. Set up almost the same as what I did but her weekly contribution depends on what she is comfortable to invest. 

I wish I could create more separate account for my kids. Instead of putting their savings in the bank. I rather put those money on their Spaceship account while they are young and eventually let them manage their own account once they reach legal age.
